Search Engine Optimization (SEO) helps your website appear in Google's search results without paying for advertising. In practice: someone searches for "security agency" on Google, and your website appears among the top results — or not, depending on the work done beforehand (For a more technical breakdown, see what an SEO agency actually does)
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) does something similar, but for artificial intelligence. When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity "which SEO agency would you recommend in Marrakech?", GEO influences whether your business is included in the answer.
These two disciplines share common foundations (clear content, clean technical structure, and website authority) but require different adjustments. A page designed for Google does not automatically guarantee good visibility in AI results, and vice versa.
Why is GEO becoming important now?
AI search engines are already used daily to find service providers, compare options, or ask for recommendations. This is no longer a future trend: some business website traffic already comes from these assistants, and this share is growing every month.
A business that is absent from these answers today starts at a disadvantage that can grow over time: the earlier competitors build their GEO presence, the harder it becomes to catch up later. Working on SEO and GEO together now helps avoid having to make up this gap under pressure later.
